FAQ

Skateboarding

There are mulitiple factors that go into choosing what deck size is right for you.

Style:

If you skate transition (vert, parks, pools) you'll want more stability and surface area under your feet. Therefore, you'll want to skate a deck that is slightly wider. However if you like to do flip tricks, prefer a lighter weight setup, and skate mostly street freestyle (we call this "street skating"), you may want a narrower board. Here are some examples:

7.00" to 7.50": Narrow decks ideal for youth riders.
7.50" to 8.00": Medium deck width for teen or adult riders skating street terrain or doing more technical tricks.
8.00" to 8.50": Ideal for various street and transition terrain. Parks, pools, rails, stairs.
8.50" and up: Wider decks great for transition skating, bigger street tricks, pools, or just cruising.

Shoe Size:

You must ensure your shoe fits on the deck properly. Turning, ollieing, and doing technical tricks requires a good fit between foot and the board. Selecting a deck that is not too wide for your feet and not too narrow is important.

If you were to place your foot perpendicular to the deck, directly center on the deck, you'd want to have just a slight amount of your heel and toe hanging off each end. If you stand on the deck and the deck is wider than your foot length than your deck is too wide. If your whole foot is hanging off by several inches on each end, then the deck is too narrow.

Our boards are made in the USA with 7 plies of premium American maple, sourced from the Great Lakes region. They are cold pressed with a digital printed graphic for the highest level of quality and detail.

Pushing Mongo: This means your pushing with the foot that you place forward on the board. By doing this, you're actually not setting yourself for success in the long run.

When you push mongo, your body weight shifts to the rear of the board. This weight shift causes a couple issues that make accidents more likely. First and foremost, weighting the back of the board makes it much easier for the front wheels to pop off the ground as you push.

When you push with the back foot, your feet will almost always be in a natural position on the board. This is true both for when you step off to push and when you place your foot back on the board. There is seldom any need to adjust foot placement. You can simply position your front foot on the board where it will need to be for whatever trick you are about to try.

When you push mongo, the opposite is true. The back foot has to stay near the truck bolts for there to be any stability at all. You will then have to place the front foot back onto the board at the exact position you need it to be in for the upcoming trick, which never happens. Instead, you will have to reposition the back foot onto the tail and the front foot into ollie position before you get to the obstacle.

Mall Grabbing: It means to hold your skateboard by grabbing the truck. Although it may seem like a really convenient way to hold your skateboard, it's frowned upon in the skate community. However, it's not really a hard rule... Do whatever you're comfortable with and if you get hate, oh well, just be yourself.

apparel

Our shirts are made with super soft Bella Canvas brand or gildan brand, both unisex fit. They tend to be more slim fitting but do not shrink when washed on the appropriate setting.

veterans

Yes. Thrash 'N Raid was founded by Benjie Manibog, a retired Marine Corps Special Operations Gunnery Sergeant.

Currently, the company is managed by an all veteran team, which includes veterans from the Marine Corps and Army. In addition, we have some active duty members that are part of our skate team.

Although we currently do not have a discount specifically for military/vets, we give back to to the military/veteran community in other ways:

Our team volunteers and manages the 501(C)3 Nonprofit organization, Six Feet Above, which connects and supports veterans and service members battling mental health issues, and connect them with skateboarding as a means to shred the trend on suicide. Likewise, we donate our products to give to the guests that attend our multi-day retreat program through Six Feet Above.

In addition, we regularly visit military bases and give away products to service members.

If you are a veteran or service member and want to attend a Six Feet Above retreat, please visit: https://sixfeetabove.org/
